Learning to read is the most important thing your child will learn at our school. Everything else depends on it, so we do all we can to make sure every child learns to read quickly.

We want your child to love reading – and to want to read for themselves.

In Lower School we are all learning our phonics, reading and writing through the Read Write Inc program.

Your child’s book will be changed at least once a week. We ask that you have your child read this several times to develop fluency in their reading. It will be a book familiar to them and they should be able to read it easily. In addition they will bring home a story book from the library to share with you.

You can also develop your child’s love of reading through accessing books on Bug Club or Oxford Owl, where you yourselves can join for free and access a range of books.
