Climate Change at Moor Allerton Hall
Climate Change is one of the most talked about topics in the news and across social media. Of course our children are also exposed to this content and many of them have questions regarding what is happening to their planet. With this in mind, we want to help our children understand the questions surrounding climate change.
Why did our school choose to go on a climate change journey?
We started our climate journey by trying to improve our school's carbon footprint. We installed solar panels, changed our lighting and installed a greener heating system. However, we wanted to do more. We felt the children needed a wider and deeper understanding of the issues surrounding the climate change crisis. We bagan to develop our Climate Change Curriculum.
Mr Wareham, Miss Keane and Mrs Parrini worked closely with the DEC (Develop Education Centre) to produce some long term planning. Our School signed up to the ERASMUS climate change scheme which allows schools from Turkey, Eire and Germany to meet regularly to share ideas and resources.
Below are some example of lessons planned and delivered in school.
On Friday 21st June 2024, we were nominated and WON in the ‘climate change learning’ category at the Leeds Global Awards Ceremony. We are very proud as a school of all our achievements.
